Measurement

Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JJVT7LCMFN) loads on every page with anonymize_ip switched on. It sets Google Analytics cookies and tells us which pages are read and, when someone presses Generate, which range, exercise and script the worksheet generator was set to, whether it was a re-roll and whether a school name was entered (yes or no, not the name itself). It is not used to build advertising audiences or linked to any advertising product.

Your browser

The number reader, the date line, the rod converter and the worksheet generator all run in your browser; what you type into them is not sent to us. The one thing the site can store on your device is a key under nic-shelf-key, written only if you press “Keep this sheet” on a worksheet, and removed by “Forget this shelf on this device” on the shelf page.

The worksheet shelf

The worksheet generator works without sending anything anywhere. If you press Keep this sheet, the recipe for that sheet (the number range, exercise type, question count, your optional school or class name and a random seed, about a hundred characters) is stored on a small service we run, so the same sheet and its answer key can be opened again from its address. Your device keeps a key to your shelf in localStorage. There is no account and no password.

If you ask for your shelf by email, we store that address with the shelf and send you a single-use link that works for seven days. The email goes through Microsoft Azure Communication Services and we do not send anything else to it. We do not store anything about students: a kept sheet is a recipe, not a filled-in page.

To remove everything, open your shelf and choose Delete the shelf and every sheet on it; that deletes the recipes, the email address and the keys at once. Kept sheets that nobody deletes are retained while the service runs; sheets that are not kept are not stored.

The shelf is not switched on yet on this site: the Keep button appears once the service is running here, and this section describes how it works when it does.

Sound

The play buttons use the speech engine built into your browser, with your device's Mandarin voice, and appear only when the device has one. On some devices that engine is a service run by the browser or operating-system maker, so the text being spoken may go to them from your browser. It does not come to us.

Fonts and links

Screen fonts load from Google Fonts. The PDF font is served from this site and fetched only when you make a PDF. Links to sources (standards, dictionaries, Wikipedia) are plain links with no tracking parameters; once you follow one, that site's own policy applies.

Advertising

No advertising runs on this site: no ad tag, retargeting pixel or third-party ad frame. If that changes, this page changes before the tag ships.
